The Centerof New Technologies is one of four research centers of the Institute of Aviation. The Center carries out R&D projects in the area of aeronautics and space technologies, including theoretical works, design & analysis and lab research.
Scope of work:
- Aerodynamics (CFD and experimental analysis)
- Avionics and systems integration
- Design and strength analysis of metallic and composite structures (airplanes, helicopters, non-standard constructions and others)
- Rocket propulsion and space technologies
- Landing gears & energy absorption systems
- Aircraft propulsion including piston, turbo-shaft, & jet engines
- Composite technologies
- Vibration & flutter analysis
- Environmental research
Laboratory research is conducted in the complexes of labs certified by the Polish Center for Accreditation (PCA), furnished with the unique in Poland testing and measuring equipment.
Main CNT Labs

Applied Aerodynamics Lab
Equipment & Facilities: aerodynamic tunnels T3 and T2, with the respective measuring area of 5 m ( the biggest in Poland), and 1.5 m ; TMT low turbulence aerodynamic tunnel; the supersonic aerodynamic tunnel N 3 with the measuring area of 0.6 x 0.6 m. All above mentioned tunnels are equipped with the modern measuring and calibration devices.
Capabilities: tunnel tests of flying objects models, aerodynamic tunnel tests for industrial purposes, design and construction of measurement stands and devices for aerodynamic tests, weight and pressure transducers calibration, pressure measurement of unsteady values. The lab also measures aerodynamic characteristics and pressure distributions for the Mach numbers in the range from 0.1 – 2.3. The Lab is capable of performing non-standard tests at the client’s request.
Landing Gear Lab
Equipment & Facilities: devices for testing complete landing gears ( drop machines) and their subassemblies: shock absorbers, hydraulic actuators, vibration dampers, wheels, brakes, friction materials, crash structures, and braces.
Capabilities: dynamic tests, static strength analysis, functional tests, wear tests, fatigue tests of landing gears and energy absorbtion systems.
Propulsion Lab
Equipment & Facilities: up to 400 kW piston & turbo-shaft engine test house
Capabilities: combustion research, measurement of toxic exhaust levels and particulate solids emission levels; tests of new fuels, 1st & 2nd generation biofuels on self-ignition, spark ignition, & turbo-shaft engines; tests of flow installation elements (20 – 1500 cubic mph); impact resistance tests of elements ( e.g. windscreen) to striking by objects flying at max. speed of 400m/s (bird test); noise tests at workstations and aircraft noise in compliance with FAR 36 and ICAO.
Environmental Lab
Environmental Lab is capable of testing devices at low and high temperatures ( between – 60°C and 180°C), for pressures from 1120 hPa to 20 hPa , and humidity levels between 10% - 98%. We also carry out shock and vibration resistance tests.
The lab is capable of conducting non-standard tests after the requirements have been submitted by the client and accepted by our specialists.
Our clients are small, medium and large enterprises from Poland and abroad. We cooperate with academic and research centres in the EU. The Institute of Aviation is a member of Polish Academy of Sciences and, since 2007, the EREA Association of European Research Establishments in Aeronautics.
Our mission is to provide R&D services to Polish and foreign companies to help them raise the competitiveness of their products.
